Just be yourself
“The time, the space—the freedom—to explore whatever you want to explore.”
“I have stimulating friends … interesting activities … I’m never bored.”
“I’ve pursued a lot of writing projects that I didn’t have time to do before.”
“I’ve done quite a bit of traveling since I moved in.”
“I joined the drama group … I liked to act. I was an actress in college.”
“We’re having more fun now probably then we ever have.”
You spent the first half of your life making all the big choices that you needed to make—career, family, relationships, finances—in order to get where you were going. Now the choices have become wonderfully richer as you stop striving for the life you hope to enjoy some day and realize that it’s all right here, within and around you.
So it’s time to think about options. Maybe you’ve actually started the conversation with your spouse, with family and friends—with yourself—about potentially moving into a senior community. You even may have scouted out a few places that seem like they could fit your needs. So now what?
You’re free to choose
You can start poring over brochures and websites, comparing amenities and services from one place to the next. But before you plunge into all those details, it would probably make sense to take a step back and ask some bigger questions:
- What are all the possible choices you can make about where you might live next?
- If you do decide it’s time to make a move, how do you choose a place that reflects who you are, your values and priorities, what you feel most passionate about?
- How do you find a place that lets you truly be yourself?
